For Whom The Bell Tolls

I would never say that I'm a religious man, if fact far from it, but today, while going to pick up my glasses, I was drawn to the bell ringing in the cathedral it was so commanding and sounded beautiful. It got me thinking about how far the sound would have traveled in times gone by, today the sound was muffled by the constant inane droll of contemporary life: car engines, air conditioning, a distant aircraft. I know what I would personally prefer to listen to.
